Magill Hall Addition and Renovation Southeast Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau, Missouri

Project:
Magill Hall Addition and Renovation Southeast Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau, Missouri

Project Type:
New Construction and Renovation

Description:
The Clark Enersen Partners Science & Research Design Group was selected by Southeast Missouri State University to perform an in-depth study of two existing science buildings: Magill and Rhodes Hall, located on the northern half of campus. Magill Hall contains 69,575 SF and currently houses both teaching and research laboratories, administrative offices, and general classroom space that support the biology, chemistry, physics/engineering, and agriculture departments. Rhodes Hall contains 48,544 SF and currently houses both teaching and research laboratories, administrative offices, and general classroom space that support the departments of biology, environmental science, chemistry, physics, and the advising center. Through our comprehensive study, it was decided that the best course of action for the allotted budget was a complete renovation of Magill Hall in conjunction with a new addition to alleviate acute space limitations. This included the complete replacement of all building mechanical and electrical systems; exterior renovations including window replacement, masonry restoration, and roof replacement; and insulating the entire structure. In order to facilitate the renovation process and alleviate the shortage of overall space, the project also adds a contiguous addition to the north of Magill Hall. The three-story addition houses a lecture room and mechanical and electrical space on the first floor. The second floor features two lecture halls and a conference area. The third floor is entirely devoted to mechanical space for housing the new air handling equipment that serves both the new addition as well as the renovated portion of Magill Hall. The total square footage of the renovated Madill Hall and the new addition is 85,110 GSF; yielding 49,252 NSF. This project is funded in part through a Title III Grant which assisted in the renovation of biology classrooms and a National Science Foundation Grant which assisted in the renovation of chemistry research laboratory space.
